Animal-Assisted Therapy

Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a therapeutic approach that harnesses the unique bond between humans and animals to support physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being.

During Animal-Assisted Therapy sessions, the presence of animals provides comfort, companionship, and a non-judgmental space for individuals to explore their emotions, address challenges, and work towards their therapeutic goals. The animals act as catalysts for healing and change, creating an atmosphere of trust and connection that can be especially beneficial for those who may struggle with other forms of therapy.

The therapeutic benefits of AAT are wide-ranging. Interacting with animals can help reduce anxiety, stress, and feelings of isolation. It can also provide a sense of unconditional love and acceptance, fostering emotional support and a positive mood. Animal interaction can improve social skills, increase motivation and engagement, and enhance communication abilities. Additionally, AAT can have physical benefits such as lowering blood pressure, improving motor skills, and promoting overall well-being.

Equine-Assisted Therapy

Horses have been used for therapeutic purposes since the time of ancient Greeks and it has become more and more common in today’s psychotherapy practice. This modality incorporates horses into the therapeutic process is used as a complementary treatment in partnership with traditional treatment modalities.

Working with animals helps to navigate challenging emotional experiences and Equine-Assisted Therapy offers an experiential approach to therapy. We DO NOT offer therapy that involves riding the horse. Our therapy involves only ground work, which may include interactions with the horse such as grooming, feeding, and other ground exercises. A therapist works alongside the client with a horse in an experiential manner to help the client learn about themselves and others, while processing or discussing the client's feelings, behaviors and patterns.
